I recently had the chance to take the Fatboy Scrambler for a spin. This was my first hands-on experience with the best-selling Scrambler model. Read on to find out how it went.

Features & Specs
The Fatboy Scrambler is known being a quality, tough and comfortable ebike. I wanted to understand why, so gave the bike a thorough look-over before taking it to the streets and trails.
Firstly let’s take a look at the heavy stuff. You might expect from an electric bike touted as high quality and durable, the Fatboy Scrambler is made up of components manufacatured by some of the most recognised brands in the business with:
- A category-leading Bafang 52V hub motor
- A reliable Samsung Battery
- Responsive Tektro Hydraulic Disc Brakes
- Industry-standard 7 Speed Shimano gears
But it’s the design features that really set the Fatboy Scrambler apart from the pack:
- You can carry your friends – The Fatboy’s rugged and tough patented frame is fitted with a 2 seater saddle as standard with the option to fit additional child seats. It featurres a 180kg carrying capacity and footpegs to provide comfort and stability for passengers.

Ride Review
The first thing that caught my attention when unloading the Fatboy Scrambler from my ebike carrier was the noticably solid and stable feel of the bike. The bike really came into its own once on the track however, with its innate ability to absorb the shocks of oncoming bumps, curbs and potholes making this ebike a real pleasure to ride.
The Scrambler is well proportioned. Compared to some of the other fat-tyre ebikes on the market, my 180cm height felt well accommodated, not hunched or cramped. The seating position is comfortable, and the ride feels smooth and natural. It was equally pleasant cruising along bitumen as was darting through dirt tracks, offering a feeling of confidence that you can ‘go places’, no doubt a result of the Scambler’s sturdy stature, fat tyres and superior shock absorption.
The location of the twist throttle on the inner right hand grip allows unemcumbered and intuitive access, providing the feel and thrill of a motorcycle throttle. I also loved the thoughtful functional inclusions, such as the cupholder conveniently within reach for my cold beverages, and the tough rear rack allows the flexibility and freedoms to load gear for adventures.
To be frank, I’m really impressed by the Fatboy Scrambler. This bike lives up to the hype. It’s a high quality adventure machine, so much so that I’m strongly considering giving a Fatboy Scrambler a permanent home of my own this summer.
Top Speed
The Fatboy Scrambler will reach a top speed of 25 kilometres per hour on public roads.
On private property I was able to reach a top speed of just over fourty kilometres and hour. I was comforted to find that, at this speed, the ride still felt extremely smooth, stable and safe. The stability at speed is definitely testament to the build quality and engineering of this bike.
Fatboy Scrambler V2 vs V1 model
Whilst the Scrambler I am test-riding in this review is Version 1, the Fatboy team released V2 models across their entire range. The main differences between the Fatboy V1 and the Fatboy V2 are as follows:
- Battery capacity
- Torque
- Top end speed
- Rear rack now capacity
- Width of foot pegs
- Galvanised chain
- New patented frame design
- Travel range in front fork suspension
- Fully adjustable handlebars
- Sized of the discs in the Tektro hydraulic brakes
Fatboy’s Scrambler vs Bagus models
Fatboy offers another model which at first glance appears similar to the Scrambler called the Bagus. ‘Bagus’ means ‘good’ in Indonesian, a modest nod to the features of this model.
While the build quality and rear suspension are similar in both the Scrambler and Bagus, that’s where the similarities really end. The Bagus is considered the high-end model of the range, with an even higher quality front-end suspension setup that is fully adjustable, and the battery placement in the middle of the frame (versus the back for the Scrambler) provides a more balanced feel. The Bagus also has a slightly higher seat, plus the capability to fit an extra battery which could be a huge attraction for taller and longer distance riders.
Price
The Fatboy Scrambler V2 retails at $4,290 from the official Fatboy online store. You can also find some Fatboy models in leading ebike retailers across Australia.
